12   He Is Quite Wrong

John could run fast indeed. And nobody else in his town could run faster than he. So John was proud of this and always ready to show people how fast he could run.

One day a thief broke into his house, took some of his things and ran away as fast as he could, John ran after him, shouting, “Hey, stop! Don’t you know you can’t get away from me?”

But the thief ran even faster. John got so angry that he ran hardest.

He was soon several miles away from his home. He was still running along when he met a friend. “Why are you in such a hurry?” the friend asked.

“I am trying to catch a thief,” said John.

“But where is the thief?” said John.

“Miles and miles behind,” said John. “He thought he could run faster than I, but you see he is quite wrong!”

事实上，约翰跑的很快。城里没有别的人能比他跑的快。于是，约翰因此而自豪，总是向人显示他能跑的有多快。

一天，一个小偷窜入他的屋里，偷走了些他的东西，并且以最快的速度逃跑了。约翰在后面跑，喊:“嗨，站住！站住！难道你不知道你逃不出我的手掌心？“

但是这个小偷跑得更快了。约翰更为生气了，跑得飞快。

不久，他已跑出离家几英里了。但他仍就接着跑，就在这是他遇到了一位朋友。“你这样匆忙是要干什么？”这位朋友问到。

“我在抓一个小头2，”约翰说。

“那小偷呢？”朋友问到。

“后面几英里呢，”约翰说。“他以为他能比我跑得快，但你看见了，他大错特错！”
